Situated between the termination of Cockleshell Gully Rd and the Eneabba-Coolimba road, Stockyard Gully N.P. covers 1500ha and protects the unique flora, fauna, and cave system of the area.
The park is in rough limestone bushland (4WD access only) and low coastal heath. A small intermittent stream in the gulley drains the low sandplains and flows westward through the belt of coastal limestone and disappears into a series of subterranean caverns. Some of these caverns have collapsed to form a rocky gully bordered by steep cliffs. The Park has a several subterranean caverns which drain a small stream flowing westward into them and is mainly limestone outcrops with intermittent low gullies. Vegetation is mainly light sandplain Heath and Banksia with some large Eucalyptus in the gullies.
During the mid-late 1900’s, part of the coastal stock route, linking Champion Bay (Geraldton) and the Guildford cattle markets traversed the park. Stockmen found the area provided good feed and water for the animals, and the creek bed or gully near the inflow entrance to the cave formed a narrow holding yard for stock if they needed to camp overnight.
