Nambung National Park

Nambung National Park, on the Swan Coastal Plain, to the immediate South East of Cervantes contains one of Australia’s most fascinating landscapes—The Pinnacles Dessert. Out of the shifting yellow sands rise thousands of huge limestone pillars, standing in stark contrast to the surrounding low heathlands typical of this coast.

The Pinnacles dominate tourist guides to the region, but they are only part of this 17,491ha National Park. Beautiful beaches, coastal dune systems and the trees and flowering plants typical of the northern coastal plain are all part of Nambung.

Bottlenose dolphins are common and sea lions can also be occasionally seen. You can launch your boat from the beach. The vegetation along the access road is composed of summer-scented wattle, coastal banjine and other common coastal species. Idyllic beach popular for shore fishing and boating. To the north-west you can see Cervantes at Thirsty Point. Out to sea, within the Jurien Bay Marine Park, are the Cervantes Islands. There is a concrete slab from an old fishing shack which was removed in the late 1960s. Birds such as swallows and ospreys are often seen.
